Design & Display
The Samsung Galaxy S8+ has the same design aesthetics as the Galaxy S8 with the rounded edges and curved sides and back for better handling purpose. It also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protecting its back and display panel. The physical Home Button is also gone – thanks to the new near bezel-less, edge-to-edge display – and has been replaced by on-screen soft keys.
The Galaxy S8+ measures 148.9 by 68.1 by 8 mm and weighs 155g. You get four colour variants here; Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Grey and Coral Blue
The Samsung Galaxy S8+ sports an edge-to-egde, near bezel-less SuperAMOLED screen, that measures 6.2 inches with Quad HD resolution (1440 x 2960). An aspect ratio of 18.5:9 makes the display appear tall which gives the phone a slim look overall.
Camera
The Galaxy S8+ features a 12 mega pixel primary sensor like the one on the Galaxy S8. The camera has features like LED flash, autofocus, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama, geo-tagging and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It can shoot videos at 4K as well.
An 8-megapixel camera is on the front, with features like LED flash, dual video call, Auto HDR, autofocus. The camera can shoot videos at 2K. You should expect to take great shots even in dark conditions.
Performance & Storage
The hardware is largely the same as the one on the Samsung Galaxy S8. The phone is powered by an Exynos 8895, Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz & 4x1.7 GHz), Mali-G71 MP20 GPU globally, while people in the US and China will receive the Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835, Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo), Adreno 540 GPU variant, both paired with 4GB of RAM. Either option should provide smooth multitasking experience.
64 GB on-board storage is what ships with the Galaxy S8+. There is a dedicated microSD slot on the single SIM variant, that can take up to 256GB while you get to choose between a second SIM or microSD on the dual SIM variant, that can also take up to 256GB.
Battery & Other Features
The Samsung Galaxy S8+ runs on a 3,500mAh non-removable battery for more juice, and it is accompanied with Fast Charging option (Quick Charge 2.0). The phablet runs on Android 7.0 Nougat (Android 8.0 update to come soon), with TouchWiz on top.
The Fingerprint scanner now sits on the back next to the camera optic, in an awkward position. You also get an Iris scanner and Face recognition for added security. There is also now a dedicated Bixby button on the left side of the device, below the volume keys, to launch the Bixby digital assistant.
