Design and Display
The design and build of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is quite similar to that of last year's Galaxy S8 although not in all areas. For instance, the edges are less rounded, and the curves on both the front and back of the S9 are more subtle.
The bezel on both the top and bottom of the display is also now thinner and the earpiece at the top of the Galaxy S9 now doubles as a stereo speaker.
The most notable change in the Samsung Galaxy S9 design, however, is the vertical placement of the camera and fingerprint sensors. The fingerprint sensor, most especially, is now believed to be in the 'ideal' spot and is more satisfying when trying to reach.
Both the back and display panels of the Samsung Galaxy S9 are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display also comes with a pressure-sensitive area where the home soft-key sits which enables users jump back to the home screen from any app with a single tap.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 measures 147.7 by 68.7 by 8.5 mm and weighs 163g. It comes in four colour options; Midnight Black, Titanium Grey, Lilac Purple and Coral Blue
The Samsung Galaxy S9 packs a Quad HD resolution (1440 x 2960) display that comes in at 5.8 inches in size. The SuperAMOLED edge-to-egde, near bezel-less screen has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 which gives the Galaxy S9 display a tall look. A design aesthetics that users have falling in love with in recent years.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S9 features a 12 mega pixel primary sensor like the one on the Galaxy S8. The camera has features like LED flash, autofocus, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama, geo-tagging and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It can shoot videos at 4K as well.
An 8-megapixel camera is on the front, with features like LED flash, dual video call, Auto HDR, autofocus. The camera can shoot videos at 2K. You should expect to take great shots even in dark conditions.
Performance and Storage
The Samsung Galaxy S9 sees a bump in the hardware department. It now runs on the newer Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 845 (Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz & 4x1.7 GHz), Adreno 630 GPU) chipset, for users in The USA & China. The Galaxy S9 ships with the Exynos 9810 (Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo), Mali-G72 MP18 GPU) chipset globally. Both chips are paired with 4GB of RAM. You should have no issues with performance as either variant should provide smooth multitasking and seamless gaming experience.
64 GB on-board storage is what ships with the Samsung Galaxy S9. There is a dedicated microSD slot on the single SIM variant, that can take up to a massive 400GB while you get to choose between a second SIM or microSD on the dual SIM variant that can also manage the same capacity.
Battery and Other Features
Samsung still sticks with the 3,000mAh non-removable battery on the Samsung Galaxy S9, which is the same as the one found in its predecessor. But not to worry if you are a heavy user as the device is accompanied with two fast charging options (Quick Charge 2.0 and Qi wireless charging). The phablet runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with a streamlined Samsung TouchWiz skin on top.
Samsung has also introduced a new Blood Pressure sensor, in addition to the Heart Rate sensor on the back of the Galaxy S9. The Fingerprint scanner now sits on the back right below the camera optic.
You also get an Iris scanner and Face recognition for added security.
