The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 sees a new design change as it adopts the sleek looks of the Galaxy S8, with the replacement of the tactile Home button, Back and Option keys, with on-display soft keys. The back is a bit curved and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, while the corners and sides on the Galaxy Note 8 are slightly rounded to help with handling as this is a device that will require the usage of both hands.

The Galaxy Note 8 measures 162.5 by 74.8 by 8.6 mm and weighs 195g. You get four colour variants here; Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Grey and Deep Sea Blue

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 screen is an edge-to-egde, almost bezel-less, all-screen SuperAMOLED display, with Quad HD resolution (1440 x 2960) that measures 6.3 inches with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The display is huge, and rather than being wide, it makes the Galaxy Note 8 appear tall which makes it easier to maneuver in one hand. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. This display should provide great viewing angles and should be visible outdoors as well.

Camera

On the back of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the 12-megapixel Dual Camera setup, the first in any Samsung smartphone. Both cameras are optically stabilised (OIS) and they both have autofocus. One of the camera allows 2x optical zoom, while the other is a wide-angle lens.

Both of these cameras combine to take a shot, when using the Live Focus (A feature that uses the zoom lens and software depth-of-field to make subjects stand out from the background), which then lets you choose between the zoomed photo or the wide-angle shot from the regular lens. You can also adjust the blurry effect of the background after the shot.

The cameras on the Galaxy Note 8 can record videos at 4K and It features other modes like touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama, geo-tagging.

On the front is an 8-megapixel selfie camera, with features like LED flash, dual video call, Auto HDR, autofocus. The camera can shoot videos at 2K. You should expect great shots from any lighting conditions.

Performance & Storage

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is powered by an Exynos 8895, Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz & 4x1.7 GHz), Mali-G71 MP20 GPU  globally, while people in the US and China will receive the Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835, Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo), Adreno 540 GPU variant, both paired with 6GB of RAM. Either option should provide smooth multitasking experience and should handle any weight thrown at it with ease.

You get to choose between  64, 128 or 256 GB when it comes to Internal memory. There is a dedicated microSD slot on the single SIM version, that can take up to 256GB while you get to choose between a second SIM or microSD on the dual SIM version, that can also take up to 256GB.

Alternative Smartphones to The Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a great smartphone, but the high price tag can be a serious drawback for some. If that is the case, you can consider the Galaxy S8 and S8 plus with similar specs and features at a lower price.

The Nokia 8 is also a great option to consider: It features a 5.3 inch display, dual 13 megapixel sensors on the back and a 13 megapixel selfie shooter and 4GB/6GB of RAM at a much lower price tag.
